Today has been a full day already and we have on been up for a few hours.  We are packed and ready to go.  Can't believe the day is finally here. Thank you all who have loved on us, prayed for us, joined our Kingdom Community,and those of you who have walked this path to get us here.  

God is good, although that goodness might be overshadowed by the final stress of packing.  The morning has been rough, but now that we have crossed the line of no return it is in God's hands.  It's funny that we have to tell ourselves that.  Everything is in God's hands all the time; even when we think it is not.  

We will post pictures and shares fun stories as our travel continues.  I can only imagine how many stories we will have (hopefully all good).


Carolyn here--Tears are close at hand as one of the first sounds I heard this morning was thunder and saw lightning.  For those of you who know me well, you know that means the world to me because when I was a young girl my brother went to Heaven and I said he was in charge of the lightning.  At every major event God has given me a thunderstorm and today as we embark as the most exciting and terrifiying moment of our lives I heard a thunderclap reminding me once again God is a loving Father who cares about every intricate detail of our lives.  A dear friend  said she would pray God will line the sky with angels today, and I echo that prayer and ask you our faithful prayer warriors, our curious onlookers or random friends we have gained along the way-- Please pray that God would line the sky with angels, give us opportunities to minister to each person we meet, on this journey. This is our journey together, you me, God us, 5 little miracles a precious answer to prayer Katherine DuFour, Northbridge, Vining, Faithway, DayBreak,Clutier and all the brothers and Sisters in Christ God has given us, We love you and are so humble that God has chosen us to be a part of this story and thank you for being part of this story as well and now we are off, too many bags, hopefully happy children, with even snack bags packed with love from precious friends- Blessed, Blessed Blessed and may you be as well- Let the Journey Begin!

The last few days have been crazy stressful.  We have been waiting for my visa, as well as the kids visa's to come in.  THEY FINALLY CAME!  They came 10:30 pm last night.  Thank you for all who were praying for us.  God is never late, although that is a hard thing to handle at time.  

We are packing like mad and working to place our life on hold here.  It is amazing how many little details you need to think through in order to put your life on hold.  This process is a strong reminder of how complicated our lives are.  It is interesting to think about how little space we have for God, but how much capacity we have for complication.  

Please be praying for us as we end one journey and begin another one tomorrow.  We have much to do and little time to do it.   

Many more update are to come, as we begin our trek across the world tomorrow at 11am.  I feel like we could have a sweet sitcom. The travel alone would be worth watching with 5 kids. We could call it  "2 adults, 1 nanny, and five kids travel the world: will they survive?"  

  

Over the past many weeks we have spent time throughout the Chicago land area, as well as the GREAT state of Iowa.  We have been humbled time and time again by the love and support of so many.  These pictures represent a handful of memories that reveal the unraveling of a story that is overwhelming and exciting.  This God story that places us (the Riker Family) as a key role is humbling to the depths unknown before.  What is exciting is that as we share our heart and the heart of God others are being empowered to take a key role in this story as well. This God story is not about the Riker's or a community of people, but instead the body of Christ coming alive in a new way.  

Over the past many weeks we have shared our heart with churches in Iowa (Clutier and Vining), friends and family from our original church (NorthBridge), former students I had the joy of serving for so long (thELEMENT and Nucleus), close friends who have loved on us (Collings and Thomson), our current church family (Faithway Baptist), and recently the Elgin Evangelical Free Church.  This list doesn't include the hundreds of support letters we have sent out to so many people, friends, and family.   The past few weeks has also opened a door for us to spend great connecting time with family, which has drawn us closer together due to this God story.

Each time we speak with people our heart doesn't simply see a community of people who are joined through past or present relationships, but instead joined by and through Christ.  We are not sharing with a community.  We are sharing what we believe to be the heart of God to all those are are willing to listen.  We are sharing it with the those interested in learning more, becoming a part of, and who already belong to the Body of Christ.  The unraveling of this God story needs more than a community, but the Body of Christ being just that.  

Together our story will be heard.  Together all God stories will be heard as people listen and share.  For this is not about us, but the Church supporting each other as all God stories are told and passed on.  We aspire to inspire and empower people through our journey, as well as being inspired and empowered by the stories of others as they journey in faith no matter how and where that may be.  

We are humbled, over and over again, by the power of God as He unites His Church to be the church.  Many of us have heard the phrase "It takes a village to raise a child."  Well, it takes the Body of Christ to be the Church.  It takes the Body of Christ to love, challenge, and empower someone.  It takes the Body of Christ and not simply a community to support each personal God story being unraveled.  If this happen, in the end, this unification will create a collective Kingdom Ripple.  This ripple effect could be greater and more powerful than the largest tidal wave or tsunami.  The difference being that this ripple is made not of water, but the Holy Spirit.  This Holy Spirit tidal wave is empowered and unleashed through the pray and service of the Church being the Body of Christ.

Do you belong to a "Christian" community or do you belong to the Body of Christ?

What role do you play in the Body of Christ?  Do you exercise your gifts for the Church? why or why not? 

I Corinthians 12:12-31  (additional reading: Eph. 4; 1 Pet. 4;  Ro. 12) 

 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.   13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body-- Jews or Greeks, slaves or free--and all were made to drink of one Spirit.  
   14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many.   15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,"that would not make it any less a part of the body.   16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,"that would not make it any less a part of the body.   17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?   18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.   19 If all were a single member, where would the body be?   20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.  
   21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you,"nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."   22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,   23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty,   24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it,   25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.   26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.  
   27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.   28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.   29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?   30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?   31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.

I just ran into a local pastor at a Starbucks today.  I met this guy a few years back at a missions project that drew youth groups from all over the county together to serve as the hands and feet of God.  Can someone say small world.   This guy can!  

I am amazed at who crosses your path at times.  In a post called  "It's not simply Networking...but God-Working"  I touched on the idea of that it's not about who you know, but who knows God and who God knows.With speaking with this pastor as I was reminded of how amazing and scary it is to live on the edge of faith.  As a Christian, what an incredible place to be.  You have a front row seat to witness God in action big or small.  To experience God first hand is awesome.  However, to be on the edge of faith also carries a great weight to it.  This weight is something that grows out of our sin.  It grows heavier the less we trust God.  I know God's hand is with us as we move forward and prepare the mission field.  Despite what I know in my spirit, I still question.  Regardless of my "questioning" God will move when He is ready, and when He moves it will be seen, heard, and understood.  

The past two weeks have been a challenge as we prepared to rally prayer, encouragement, and financial support for this God story.  The long awaited time had come. We were able to get our support letters out.  What a great day!  It wasn't a great day because the letters were finally out.  It was a great day for two reasons.  1.  Together our family was able to grow in faith as we talked through what we were doing, as well as spending time praying over the letters that were sent.  In the end, we want it to be clear that this is God's story being  unraveled through one step of obedience in hope to foster, inspire, challenge, and empower others to take their own steps of obedience all for the purpose of God's glory.  2.  These letters, in addition to the conversations and gatherings we have had, represent the movement of God in the lives of our friends and family.  

 The edge of faith boarders on the logical and illogical.  The sane and the crazy.  It boarders on the possible and impossible.  How these are displayed and plays out in your own lives will be different than how it comes to surface in another.  For us, at this moment, the edge of faith is putting our complete trust in God (it is not as much about what is in the letters, but rather what they represent - Obedience and trust).  It is being confident that our efforts to understand God's will, as well as being obedient to it is clear and complete.
